Integrating Shadows is a small sized 7x9 inch original oil painting on a mounted wood panel, finished with a handmade walnut stained wood frame.

This piece was inspired by the beautiful way that light and temperature influence the way that we perceive an object. A green plant becomes purple under the shadow of a rock on a hot day. The shadow cast by that plant, on the surface of a cool rock, makes the rock in that area appear blue. Objects in shadow look smaller, further away, whereas surfaces hit by the sun are seen as larger and closer to the one observing. I really enjoy the contrast of these two moods or emotions we naturally and maybe unconsciously experience as we witness a still and constant landscape responding to fluctuating time and space.
